May Author Events

In May, I had the chance to attend two author events at the Provo Library. When I heard about the first one, I was over the moon about it. I mean really excited! I had dreamed about meeting one of the authors ever since I read her first book and saw her cute blue-striped hair (kindred spirit). But, every time she released tour dates, Utah was never on the map. And, then it was thanks to The King’s English Bookshop.

IMG_2053I had the chance to meet Stephanie Perkins, author of Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door, and soon-to-be-released Isla and the Happily Ever After. I adored Anna and Lola. They’re such fun reads. I love everything about them, the characters, stories, settings. I could just go on and on. (Oh, and PS, she loved my purple hair! I could’ve died right there.)

One of the things I remember most about this signing was that Perkins plans to release a YA horror novel after she’s done with Isla. I’m really excited about that because I think she’d do a really good job with it. Honestly, she could write about anything and I’d read it, I’m sure of it.

IMG_2056Perkins was accompanied by Margaret Stohl, is one of the author of the Beautiful Creatures series. I feel bad because I wasn’t as excited about her as I was about Stephanie Perkins. But, I haven’t read her series yet. I plan to. I just haven’t yet.

IMG_2075A few days later, the library held their annual Children’s Book Festival. They usually have a lot of fun authors come to that. This time around they had Gail Carson Levine come. At the time, I didn’t realize who she was until Emily from Emily’s Reading Room told me. And, I hadn’t read any of her books (obviously). But, I had always wanted to read Ella Enchanted and since she’s a big to do, I decided to go meet her. I didn’t really know what to say, but she was really sweet and I did end up enjoying Ella Enchanted. (Oh, and another PS, they also had really cute owls at the Children’s Book Festival. And, if you stood in line long enough, illustrator Nathan Hale would draw you a picture while you watched.)
